How Bargaining Works

Last updated 3 September 2026

“Make an offer” brings our Mulund counter to your screen: you propose a price, and our team replies with a yes — or their best counter. These are the full rules.

“Make an offer” lets you propose your own price on this item. Our team reviews every offer personally and comes back with a yes — or their best counter. It’s a real negotiation, the way it works at our counter in Mulund.

A first in India. As far as we know, Murugan Palace is the first retailer in the country — and one of the first anywhere — to let you haggle online the same way you would face-to-face at the shop. It began at our counter in Mulund in 1966; this simply brings that counter to your screen. You are among the first people ever to use it.

1. Who can bargain

Anyone can open Make an offer, try the slider and see what a price would look like. To actually send an offer you need a free Murugan Palace account — when you press Submit bargain we’ll ask you to sign in or register, then bring you straight back to your offer.

2. Making an offer

  1. Pick the size and the quantity you want.
  2. Open Make an offer and either drag the slider or tap the amount and type the exact price you’d like to pay.
  3. The bargain discount is extra, on top of the M.R.P. saving you already see. You can ask for anything from 0.1% up to 8% extra off the M.R.P. — so if this item is already 30% off and you ask for 8%, your treasure price is 38% off the M.R.P. (The ceiling can differ by size.) Ask for more and the slider simply stops at the maximum.
  4. Optionally use Add a note to tell our team anything that helps — a bulk order, a festival purchase, that you’re a regular. It reaches us with your offer.
  5. Press Submit bargain. Closing the slider with Cancel before you submit costs you nothing.

3. What happens next

Your request goes straight to our team. We aim to respond within about 15 minutes (a target, not an instant guarantee — nothing is auto-cancelled if we run over). You’ll get an on-site alert on the bell at the top of the page the moment we reply. There are only two outcomes:

  • Approved — you get exactly the price and quantity you asked for.
  • Counter-offer — we can’t match that one, so we send back the best price we can do for the same quantity. You’re free to accept it or walk away. We never simply reject an offer.

Either way, our reply may carry a short note from the team — it shows up with the alert and on your Notifications page.

4. Your attempt limit

You get 3 offers per size, per account.

  • Every offer you submit uses one — including starting a “New bargain” to replace one that’s still pending, and cancelling a pending offer after we’ve seen it.
  • Backing out at the slider before submitting does not use one.
  • Each size is counted separately — using up your offers on the 24 cm doesn’t affect the 26 cm.
  • When all 3 are used the button stays visible but disabled, so you always know where you stand.

5. If your offer is approved

  • Your special price is live for 2 hours, with a countdown on the page.
  • The price block shows the M.R.P. and the usual Murugan Price both struck through, and your bargained price highlighted in gold.
  • Add to Cart / Buy It Now use the special price automatically while it’s live.
  • After the 2 hours the price quietly returns to normal. If you still have offers left for that size, you can start again.

6. The quantity rule

Your bargained price is tied to the quantity you asked for — that’s the minimum for that price.

  • Increasing the quantity is always fine — the bargained price still applies to the whole order, no upper limit.
  • Reducing below the agreed quantity gives you a warning first. Reduce again and the quantity drops, but the price goes back to the normal Murugan Price for that smaller order.
  • Raise the quantity back to the agreed amount and your bargained price reappears.

7. Using it

A bargained price applies to one order. Once you’ve placed an order with it, that offer is done. A counter-offer is only for you — every other shopper sees the normal price.

8. The fine print

  • All prices include GST. Standard delivery and our 7-day return policy apply to bargained orders exactly as normal.
  • A bargained price can’t be combined with coupons or other promotions — it replaces the price for that item.
  • Offers are per size (per product variation) and aren’t transferable between products, sizes or accounts.
  • We don’t hold stock for a pending or approved offer; the price applies when you check out, subject to availability.
  • Our team’s counter price is final for that round. Murugan Palace may change or withdraw the bargaining feature, or a product’s discount ceiling, at any time.
